About the title

“Mt. Parnassus” (M T P A R N A S S U S) happens to be an anagram of “MSU Spartans” (M S U S P A R T A N S), our school mascot and eponymous acronym. This anagram nods to Johann Fux’s seminal treatise on counterpoint, Gradus ad Parnassum (“Steps to Mt. Parnassus”). The real Mt. Parnassus is in Greece, also the home of historic Sparta.
